How to fill in this blank Business Plan template
A blank template is most effective when you approach it section by section, in the document's logical order. Here is the recommended method:
- 1
Start with the market research
This is the section that takes the most time and shapes everything else. Identify your target market, its size, its players and your direct competitors before writing anything else.
- 2
Write the project presentation
Describe your business, your team and your business model. Be specific about the problem you solve and your solution.
- 3
Build your financial forecasts
Start from your revenue assumptions (volume × price), add your fixed and variable costs, then your financing plan. The template's tables are already structured to guide you.
- 4
Write the executive summary last
Once the whole document is written, summarize the key points on one page: who you are, what you do, key figures, financing need. It's the first thing the bank reads.
Tip: first review one of our filled-in examples (restaurant, cottage, rental property) to see the level of detail expected in each section before filling in the blank template.
